The known history of the family home dates back to the year 1910, when the property was acquired by Mr. Ahmed Maâmouri, then a young translator for the Beylical administration, freshly graduated from the prestigious Sadiki College in Tunis. At the time, it was a modest structure—though built in solid masonry—located at the center of a plot on the outskirts of the town. It was known as the "Villa Marine", and had belonged to a family of French colonists—a name that still appears in the city's land registry records.
This purchase marked a step up in social status.
